Solo Check Ride PDF

CFI Greg Davies checks out Jamie Honan. Jamie is a student, everytime he wants to go solo he has to be assessed.

The following photos shows some of the elements of simple circuits. Greg took the photos.

01-start

"Clear Prop"

02-brain-in-gear

The check list. Here Jamie ponders the last item, "Is the brain in gear?"

03-quick-pose-climb

During climb out, a brief pose.

04-turn-cross

Dramatic shot turning cross. As part of our fly neighbourly procedures, we try to avoid flying directly overhead buildings, especially the shed you see here.

05-turn-cross

Turning onto downwind. Check for traffic. Always keeping note of the angle to the airfield.

06-downwind

Downwind checks. Airspeed with reference to the end of the runway. Attitude right?

07-attitude

Attitude OK. What a beautiful day. A moment to savour.

08-downchecks

Greg seems happy. Aircraft going well. Student alright too.

09-base-turn

Turning onto base. Radio call. Airspeed max 60 knots. 90% of the time looking at the runway.

10-final-low

Too low?

11-final

 Play the waiting game.

12-lined-up

Looks right now.

13-landing-concentration

Concentration on landing. Fly it down, hold it off. Stay steady.  Don't let it land. Oh look, it landed!

14-cfi-happy

That was OK. Another time.

15-doit-all-again

And again, and again, and again...
